HollenWolff cufflinks are precision machined from solid bar stock on Swiss watch-making equipment. Known for its hardness, corrosion resistance and corresponding difficulty to machine, we utilize surgical grade 316L stainless steel for the standard material for all our cufflink and shirt stud components, with select bodies also machined in C510 marine grade patinating bronze. More labor-intensive and time-consuming compared to traditional jewelry casting methods, Swiss machining is unmatched with respect to accuracy in higher-integrity materials like these, with tolerances held as low as 5 microns (.0002 in. or .005 mm). Further, it provides unmatched due to trace turning lines that proudly evidence method of manufacture. Why not use brass or softer metals which cut faster and initially look the same? Because these are heirlooms. Our materials provide for superior durability, corrosion resistance and finish that will stand the test of time.
All turned stainless components are passivated and electropolished (by hand for inlaid components) or shot blast with glass beads prior to being coated in a myriad of finishes that, in addition to their beauty, provide maximum resistance to wear and abrasion. All bronze components are furnished in a raw condition, and further will naturally patina over time at various rates dependent on exposure and handling.
Following polishing, coating, and stone inlay as selected, components are intricately assembled by hand. Every set of cufflinks is individually numbered and personalized in three locations as desired through permanent laser marked inscription.
The production time for personalized cufflinks is within seven days, with a selection of our most common combinations available for immediate, expedited shipping.
Altogether, more than 100 operations are required to produce a set of HollenWolff cufflinks. This, in addition to decades of machining experience.
